Resources to Maximize DAFpay in Peer-to-Peer Fundraising

In order to get the most out of DAFpay in your Peer-to-Peer Fundraising, it’s critical to educate your fundraisers on Donor Advised Funds and the DAFpay payment option.

One of the most powerful use cases for DAFpay, Chariot’s 3-click DAF payment option that can be embedded in any donation form, is in peer-to-peer fundraising events.

These fundraising efforts tap into each of your supporter’s extended networks, drawing in a significant number of potential first-time donors. Without DAFpay, those donors are most likely to donate with a credit card, even if they have a DAF, because it’s so much easier. Using their DAF would require them to leave your form and take several extra minutes to complete a gift.

With DAFpay embedded, anyone with a Donor Advised Fund can use it to donate in less than 20 seconds without ever leaving your page. This results in:

  1. Faster and smoother donor experience, increasing conversion

  2. Greater DAF usage, which results in much larger gifts (the average DAF gift is nearly $5k, 23x the average credit card gift online)

  3. Know a new supporter has a DAF, and getting their name & email immediately, so you can properly steward that high potential donor

DAFpay is natively integrated with several leading peer-to-peer fundraising platforms like DonorDrive, Givebutter, CauseMatch and others. If you use a fundraising platform that we’re not yet integrated with, be sure to request an integration from them!

Having the DAFpay option available is the critical first step, but it’s also important to make sure your event participants and fundraisers know what DAFs are, why they are important and how to fundraise from them.

Pan-Mass Challenge, the largest athletic fundraiser in the country, is the industry leader in DAF fundraising at events and does an excellent job with fundraiser education

Here are 2 templates you can leverage to educate your fundraisers like Pan-Mass Challenge:

  1. An email announcing DAFpay to your event participants

  2. An FAQ page on DAFs & DAFpay you can host in your blog or resource section

1. Email to Peer to Peer Fundraisers about DAFpay

2. Donor Advised Fund (DAF) and DAFpay FAQs for Peer to Peer Fundraisers

What is a Donor Advised Fund (DAF)?
A DAF (donor-advised fund) is a tax-incentivized charitable giving accounts. Donors contribute cash or financial assets, invest those funds get, and can only use these funds to donate to charities.  DAFs are the fastest growing way to give. There are $230 billion in DAFs ready to be donated.

What is DAFpay?
DAFpay allows donors to support participants with donations from their Donor Advised Funds (DAFs) right from their fundraising page in just 3 clicks.

How can my donor support me using DAFpay?
Once your donor is on your fundraising page, they make their Donor Advised Fund (DAF) donation with 3 clicks:
1.       Click on the DAFpay button
2.       Select their DAF provider
3.       Log in with their existing DAF credentials to complete their donation

How will I know that my donor made a DAF donation using DAFpay?
When your donor donates using the DAFpay button and their DAF provider is compatible with DAFpay, you will see their donation on your dashboard as pending. Most of the largest DAF providers, including Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, Vanguard Charitable and many others, are compatible with DAFpay.
If your donor has their account with a DAF provider that is not yet compatible with DAFpay, they can still use the DAFpay button, but the process will be finalized on their DAF Provider’s website. We will not know if this donation is completed until payment is received from the DAF provider, but it will be easier to reconcile because they used DAFpay. These donations will appear on your dashboard when the payment is received.

How long does it take for a DAFpay donation to be posted to my fundraising total?
The donation will post to your fundraising total as soon as the donor completes their transaction on DAFpay. when the payment is received from the DAF provider.

What if my donor makes their DAF donation on their DAF provider’s website instead of through DAFpay on my fundraising page?
If your donor initiates their DAF donation from their DAF provider website, ask them to search for the organization by tax ID and include your name with the grant request, usually in the designation field. The organization will not know about this donation until payment is received from the DAF provider. At that point, you will see the donation and it will be added to your fundraising total.
