Chariot started with a simple idea: give 10% of our income to charity. But managing that commitment on spreadsheets quickly showed us how outdated and fragmented the giving infrastructure really was.
Our founders, first built MyTen, a dedicated card to help people hit their 10% giving goal together. Along the way, they learned that Donor-Advised Funds help a fast-growing number of people with their giving goals — but also fall short of their full potential since they couldn’t be used like the MyTen card wherever someone is inspired to give online.
Salo Serfati, Aaron Kahane & Drew Schneider applied to Y-Combinator with the idea of a DAF payment option to unlock more generosity. After being accepted to the renowned start-up accelerator, they quit their jobs and Chariot was officially off to the races. The team kept learning more from donors, nonprofits and DAFs, evolving their mission from a payment option to a purpose-built financial infrastructure that makes giving seamless for donors and sustainable for nonprofits.
