Pan-Mass Challenge (“PMC”), the largest athletic fundraiser in the country, has long been a leader in DAF fundraising. In January 2024, they implemented DAFpay as an express checkout payment option on every participant’s fundraising page - and they’ve seen incredible results:

So far in 2024, DAF giving has made up 9.3% of total individual giving. That share has increased 25% year over year.

The year-over-year increase in DAF giving is also the biggest driver of PMC’s growth so far in 2024, accounting for 57% of their growth year-to-date.

An important contributor is the fact that the total number of DAF providers people are giving from has increased by 105% year-over-year, with gifts received from 43 different Donor Advised Funds so far in 2024 - This is because donors can use DAFpay with over 1,000 DAFs!

A few notes on the data and analysis included in this case study:

This analysis includes all individual giving received between January 1 and April 30 in 2023 and 2024. Each DAF provider has a different process to deliver gifts that can take anywhere from 1-6 weeks. There were dozens more gifts initiated on DAFpay in the time period that were not included in the analysis since they had not been received by time of publishing.

We refer to DAF giving through a DAF payment option as “Digital DAF Giving” and DAF gifts that came directly from a DAF provider as “Offline DAF Giving”. Note that in 2023, Digital DAF Giving occurred through DAF Direct and in 2024 it all occurred through DAFpay.

The main PMC event is in August, so while these results from the first 4 months of the year are incredibly exciting, we know it’s only the tip of the iceberg.
